OONA
Oona Sinkko (b. 1999) is a versatile musician and composer whose music brings together Finnish folk tradition, improvisation, and her original compositions. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy’s Folk Music Department (2023) and completed her professional studies at Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory (2020).
Since starting her freelance career in 2015, Sinkko has toured internationally with various ensembles. She is also known as an inspiring pedagogue, encouraging and motivating students both in music schools and as a näppäri teacher. Her teaching emphasizes the joy of playing together and carrying forward Finland’s folk heritage—especially the Kaustinen fiddle tradition, which is recognized on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Currently, Sinkko performs actively as a keyboardist with Johanna Juhola & Oona Sinkko, Johanna Juhola Reaktori, Oona Sinkko & Toisinto, Katrillicrew, Sami Asp trio and NOOLI. She also appears with folk ensembles such as Järvelän Pelimannit, Kaustisen Aapintuvan pelimannit, and Näppärit, and frequently works as a substitute with groups including Maksetut Viulut and Tsuumi Sound System. In addition, she gives solo concerts on both piano and harmonium.
As a composer, Sinkko moves freely across genres, creating works that range from folk and jazz to string orchestra arrangements—and even a musical premiered at Kaustinen Music High School.
